Can research be the key to unlocking memories?

As people age, they can experience changes in their memory. Memory loss can impact daily life and relationships. Imagine getting disoriented in new places or forgetting how to do routine tasks. There is so much to be learned from research that can help us better understand what causes memory loss patterns and how to prevent it.

Our team of specialists at Atrium Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine has been a leader in aging research for decades. Memory decline prevention is the goal, but treatment is an important part of our research. A treatment might be in the form of a medicine or a behavioral approach. New treatments could slow memory decline, improve quality of life and even offer insights on how it can one day be prevented.

Why you should enroll in a research study

  • Study volunteers enrolled in a clinical study receive an extra layer of medical care with frequent follow up and progress assessments
  • Study volunteers participating in clinical trials may achieve better outcomes than those not enrolled in a study
  • Access to the latest treatments long before they may become widely available
  • As a result of your own experience or that of a loved one, you may want to shape the future of health care for yourself and others
